(UPDATE 06.07.10): Hearst Newspapers, which formerly employed Helen Thomas as their White House Correspondent, today announced her retirement, effective immediately.

(06.04.10, 23:57: SEE UPDATE AT BOTTOM)

You first.

(06.04.10, 23:57: UPDATE): Ms. Thomas has issued a statement of “regret.” According to FOX News, Ms. Thomas, who made the initial offensive remarks after covering the Jewish Heritage celebration at the White House on Thursday, May 27; expressed her regret on Friday, June 4, one full week after the fact. (The FOX News headline reads, Ms. Thomas “apologizes”; however, in her statement, she only uses the word “regret.”) http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/04/white-house-reporter-helen-thomas-apologizes-saying-jews-hell-palestine/ (Note that, since these comments were made outside of the venue, this means, the widely distributed photograph of Ms. Thomas inside the venue, with BO’s arm around her, was taken before she made her ‘regretful’ remarks.)

I feel sorry for Ms. Thomas; she reminds me of Clark Clifford.

After a lifetime of unblemished public service which included a stint as Secretary of Defense, then 86-year-old Clark Clifford was caught up in the BCCI banking scandal. Five years later he died, at the age of 91. This line brilliantly distills the general consensus of his situation: “Few people in Washington, let alone Clark Clifford himself, could have imagined so inglorious an end to so glorious a career.” http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/cclifford.htm

I cannot help thinking, 90-year-old Thomas, realizing her conduct has similarly erased a lifetime legacy of achievement; is desperately trying to rehabilitate her good name, in what little time she has left.

Helen Thomas is a doddling old (name omitted by jbjd)….she should go back… somewhere…whereever doddling old (name omitted by jbjd) come from.

RMinNC: Welcome! I am so sorry I had to omit the last word of your characterization; but no name calling on this blog. And the word you meant here is “doddering.” The definition suits your sentiments perfectly! http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/doddering ADMINISTRATOR

  2. Renee says:

Thank you jbjd ! I found the name in my digs but never dreamed her roots were middle eastern ! Amazing ! I posted it also. Thank you again. You are an amazing person. Your work is pretty hot too,as usual !

Renee: Welcome back! Thank you, as always, for appreciating the work. (I have been working on a ‘hot’ expose of how the D’s skirted the laws of 13 states by artificially suppressing votes from HRC’s pledged delegates at the 2008 D Corporation Convention. Believe it or not, this story about Ms. Thomas, as distasteful as it is, provided a welcome break from the never-ending muck and mire I wade into to expose the 2008 election fraud!) ADMINISTRATOR

Loved your “You first” response. I didn’t want you to miss the Israeli response to the propaganda.
As a Roman Catholic I loved the “Momma Theresa” for Mother Teresa-
“abandon reason the Hamas is Momma Theresa”
Mother Teresa’s only weapons against hate: Rosary beads, prayers and hard work.
We should all pray for Israel’s safety from all forces of evil and hatred.

Michelle: Thank you; there was nothing else to say. ADMINISTRATOR

  4. Philip_Daniel says:

Helen Thomas is a Maronite (name omitted by jbjd). Bashir Gemayel is undoubtedly spinning in his grave.

Philip_Daniel: Welcome. Thank you for mentioning Mr. Gemayel. Here is a good clip of the late President of Lebanon, when he was an army Commander, back in 1982. (Please note, this transcript is posted on the web site of the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs.) http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Foreign%20Relations/Israels%20Foreign%20Relations%20since%201947/1982-1984/35%20Interview%20with%20Bashir%20Gemayel%20on%20ABC%20television Here is his obituary. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/obituaries/article646007.ece And here is a good article about conditions in Lebanon at the time of his murder. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/opinions/articles/fears_of_civil_strife_rise.html

jbjd-how very kind of you to recognize this.

Michelle: I will look you up, when I am that age. ADMINISTRATOR

  6. Al says:

    Hi jbjd,

Thanks for sharing another interesting and informative post. By our very nature, humans are not perfect…so things at one time or another may come out not fully the way we intend…it’s unfortunate that Ms. Thomas’ legacy has been forever tarnished by this very public matter. If time does heal all things as they say, jbjd, hopefully she’ll heal and spend her remaining days in good graces.

Back next week to lurk and catch up. Have a great week.

Al: You are welcome. Yes, we are human. I, too, wish Ms. Thomas the best, outside of the journalistic arena. ADMINISTRATOR

mark: Welcome to the blog. I omitted your comment in its entirety because it contained no reliable citations. (I did not understand its relevance to the article, either. Perhaps you could re-submit with edits.)
